The Place

Currently, there are 4 million people living within the city of Los Angeles. Half of this population is Latino, a quarter white, and the rest Asian, African American, and Native American. While LA is known for it's great diversity, it is also contains a great number of homeless people and gang members. Los Angeles has over 63,000 gang members, who out number the 10,000 police officers 7 to 1. There are also at least 91,000 homeless people each night in the Los Angeles County.

The Trip

During the week trip through Global Partnerships, the service will be geared towards the issues that LA faces. The goal is to be Jesus' hands and feet throughout the city, and to join in on the work that God is already doing there. During the trip, you will be partnering with ministries throughout the city, and serving along side them.

The Partner

First, you live in the city – experiencing firsthand the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of urban life. Our housing options are located in the heart of their respective city. You also eat at local ethnic restaurants and discover the delights of Salvadorian, Middle Eastern, Filipino, African-American, and other cuisine.

Second, you learn about the city – unique issues and problems that city dwellers face and what God is doing to foster and further His Kingdom in the city, through the indigenous organizations that operate on the front lines of urban ministry.

Third, you become part of the solutions for the city – by offering your time, energy and sweat as you support these indigenous "ministry sites." CSM plugs you into a variety of hands-on ministry opportunities to ensure that your time in the city is spent supplying substantive help to God’s people in the city.
